Stain and moth protection and rug storage

Stain protection

After washing, the fibre is open and clean. That is the right moment to apply a stain protection treatment. It reduces how quickly liquids are absorbed and gives you time to blot a spill before it sinks in. It does not make a rug immune to stains, and we say so plainly. What it does is make daily care easier, and the next visit to the workshop too. If a spill happens, blot it with a white cloth, pressing without rubbing, and write to us.

We recommend it for dining rooms, family rooms and rugs in high traffic areas. On silk and delicate pieces, the master decides whether it is advisable.

Moth protection

Moths look for soiled wool, darkness and stillness. A rug under a sofa or in a little used room is exactly where they settle. The moth treatment is applied after washing and controlled drying, when the wool is clean. It is especially useful for pieces going into storage or returning to dim rooms. We recommend repeating it with every wash.

Professional wrapping and storage

If you are travelling, renovating or simply have no room for a piece, we can keep it for you. Before storage, every rug goes through our seven step process: pickup, diagnosis and photography, deep dusting, washing, centrifuge and controlled drying, master review, and sealed wrapping. Storing a soiled rug invites moths.

  • Rolled, never folded, with the pile facing inward to protect the design.
  • Breathable wrapping that keeps dust out without trapping moisture.
  • A clean, dry area in our workshop, away from direct light.

Storage also works by season. Some families alternate heavy wool rugs and lighter pieces with the weather, and prefer the one not in use to stay clean, protected and ready to return.

Every stored piece keeps its KR tracking code and its arrival photographs. When you want it back, let us know on WhatsApp a few days ahead and we deliver it wrapped and sealed.

Pickup and quotes

Pickup and delivery are included at no extra cost in Polanco, Lomas de Chapultepec, Bosques de las Lomas, Tecamachalco, Interlomas, Huixquilucan and the west of the city. To request a quote, send us on WhatsApp a photo of the front and one of the back of each piece, the size and your colonia. For storage, tell us roughly how long. We are available Sunday to Friday.

Process

Our seven step process

Process
  1. Step 1. Collection

We collect your rug on the agreed date, in Polanco, Las Lomas, Interlomas and the west of the city, at no extra cost. We roll it with care, never folded, and give you its tracking code.

  2. Step 2. Diagnosis and photography

On arrival at the workshop, the master inspects fiber, dyes, foundation, fringes and edges. We photograph front and back, record every detail and share the diagnosis with you before any work begins.

  3. Step 3. Deep dusting

We remove the dust and grit that settle deep in the foundation and wear the fiber down with every footstep. It is the step most often skipped, and the one that most protects the life of a rug.

  4. Step 4. Washing

Wool pieces go through our industrial automatic washer, with abundant water and neutral detergents. Silk and delicate pieces are washed by hand, by the master, with the time each one asks for.

  5. Step 5. Centrifuge and controlled drying

The industrial centrifuge removes water evenly, without twisting or stretching the weave. The rug then dries laid flat in a controlled environment, to prevent odors, shrinkage and dye bleeding.

  6. Step 6. Restoration and the master's review

If the diagnosis called for it and you approved it, the master repairs fringes, edges and weave with wool and technique true to the piece. Before leaving, every rug receives a final review, inch by inch.

  7. Step 7. Wrapped and sealed delivery

We photograph the finished piece, roll it, wrap it and seal it. We deliver it to your home on the agreed date, ready to return to its place, with the photographic record of arrival and delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Does stain protection change how the rug feels?

Not noticeably. It is applied as a light layer on clean, dry wool, and it does not leave the pile stiff or shiny. It does not alter the colours either. On silk rugs or rugs with delicate dyes, the master first tests a discreet spot and only continues if the result is right.

Why should I not store my rug folded?

Folding puts strain on the warp and the knots along the crease, and over time they can break. A folded rug wrapped in plastic also traps moisture, which encourages mould and moths. The right way is to wash it, roll it with the pile facing inward and wrap it in breathable material.

Can I ask for my rug back at any time?

Yes. Let us know on WhatsApp a few days ahead and we arrange delivery to your home, wrapped and sealed, within our working days, Sunday to Friday. Your piece keeps its KR tracking code and its arrival photographs, so you can check its condition when you receive it.
